Geographic Concentration and Establishment Scale

چکیده
This paper shows that plants located in areas where an industry concentrates are larger, on average, than plants in the same industry outside such areas. In some sectors, such as manufacturing, the differences are substantial. The connection between size and concentration is stronger than what we would expect to nd if plants were randomly distributed like darts on a dartboard.

Geographic concentration and high tech firm survival
a r t i c l e i n f o If localization economies are present, firms within denser industry concentrations should exhibit higher levels of performance than more isolated firms. Nevertheless, research in industrial organization that has fo-cused on the influences on firm survival has largely ignored the potential effects from agglomeration. Recent studies in urban and regional economics suggest th...
متن کاملWORKING PAPER SERIES Productivity and the Geographic Concentration of Industry: The Role of Plant Scale
A large body of research has established a positive connection between an industry’s productivity and the magnitude of its presence within locally defined geographic areas. This paper examines the extent to which this relationship can be explained by a micro-level underpinning commonly associated with productivity: establishment scale. Looking at data on two-digit manufacturing across a sample ...
متن کاملPhotosynthetic parameter estimations by considering interactive effects of light, temperature and CO2 concentration
Biochemical leaf photosynthesis models are evaluated by laboratory results andhave been widely used at field scale for quantification of plant production, biochemical cycles and land surface processes. It is a key issue to search forappropriate model structure and parameterization, which determine modeluncertainty. A leaf photosynthesis model that couples the Farquhar-vonCaemmerer-Berry (FvCB) f...
متن کاملGIS-based rapid-assessment of bighead carp Hypophthalmichthys nobilis (Richardson, 1845) suitability in reservoirs
Broad-scale niche models are good for examining the potential for invasive species occurrences, but can fall short in providing managers with site-specific locations for monitoring. Using Oklahoma as an example, where invasive bighead carp (Hypophthalmichthys nobilis) are established in certain reservoirs, but predicted to be widely distributed based on broad-scale niche models, we cast bighead...
متن کاملراه اندازی فن PCR برای تشخیص آلودگی به ویروس HTLV-1 در بافتهای پارافینه
Introduction: HTLV-1 , the first known human retrovirus belongs to oncovirus subfamily of retroviruses. The major characteristic of HTLV-1 is its highly restricted geographic prevalence. Northern part of Khorasan is an endemic region of HTLV-1 infection. Epidemiological studies can help in designing preventive programs for HTLV-1 infection. The aim of this study was the establishment of a PCR t...
